Furatena was the owner of the finest emeralds of the Muzo territories before the Spanish conquest.[9] Major mines of this area are:[10] Muzo mine Coscuez mine Las Pavas La Pita Peñas Blancas mine La Palma mine Yacopí mine Quipama mine Small airports serving the western belt are Furatena Airport and Muzo Airport.
